ROM patcher not working?

I'm new here, so apologies if I'm misunderstanding something. I'm trying to patch my Mario 64 ROM with the Super Mario 64 Maker patch (specifically, version 1.3), however, I just can't seem to get it to work. I'm using Project 64 to do this. Playing the ROMs before patch works fine as far as I can tell, but no luck afterward. As the plural suggests, I tried multiple different ROMs from different sites (to see if maybe the one I was using just wasn't compatible). No luck with any of them. I'm at a real loss here, anyone know what to do?

Again, sorry if I screwed something up in the post or in my own logic -- wherever. This is my first time using this site.

Did you change the memory size from 4MB to 8MB under the rom settings? most romhacks require 8MB to work.
